Beginning with the name, the library, now called the LLC (Library Learning Commons), transformed over the summer and continues to change throughout the upcoming months.

The changes began when the collection of books and periodicals were moved upstairs, leaving more room for 16-new computers, collaborative study areas and new furniture on the first level. Paired with the relocation of the tutoring labs from other buildings and a fresh coat of paint, the library is transforming into a more cohesive, modern learning environment.

Additional major upgrades are in the works, including the installation of a tabletop and barstools along the back window, new tables with laptop charging stations, updated programs on the current computers, a student production area and a community reflection center. These changes are in progress for the next few months, with an anticipated ribbon cutting scheduled for mid-October.

Even with the annexation of these new changes, many services offered by the Library are underutilized by students. One of these services include laptop and iPad rentals, found at the service desk on the first floor. Laptops are rentable up to four hours at a time and can leave the LLC; iPads may be checked out for up to 5 days and can leave the library as well.

Another resource found in the LLC is the skills lab, a non-credit open entry, open-exit program designed to assist with college preparation for students. From remedial math to Microsoft Office training programs, these computer-based programs aid both traditional and nontraditional students in the transition to college.

Even if the LLC doesn’t directly carry the physical or audiobook students need for their classes, there are several other sources the LLC partners with to provide information to students. The USU Library databases offer a wide variety of resources, free to students. From online books to video tutorials, the USU Library database is just a click away for major-specific materials. Simply go to library.usu.edu to access millions of online materials.

The LLC also maintains a partnership with the Price City Library; a great source for the casual reading and children’s books the LLC may not carry. Simply present a current USU Eastern ID card at checkout when at the Price City Library and make sure no holds are on your banner account.

For more information about changes in the LLC or general information, the LLC is open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 10 p.m., or via phone at (435)-613-5209. Stop by anytime to be met by a friendly staff who loves the library and loves USU Eastern.
