While actors readied themselves to speak of scandalous affairs on March 30, scandalous affairs were occurring at the entryway to the theatre, where a USU Eastern campus police officer escorted an intoxicated individual away.

Shortly after 7 p.m., as actors were rehearsing their cues for the night’s performance of School for Scandal, Dale R. Ashton, 26, of Cleveland, was being arrested for public intoxication at the entryway to the theatre.

Ashton, who reportedly was imbalanced, and had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a heavy stench of alcohol, would later admit to having drunk nine alcoholic beverages in the two hours prior to his arrest. When asked his name, he questioned the officer’s motive for asking and gave a false name.

Charged with public intoxication and giving false information, Ashton was booked into the Carbon County Jail.

The campus and community would be well served to observe that the USU Eastern campus is dry. Carrying alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs on any college property whether in bottles, bodies or otherwise, is prohibited.
