College of Eastern Utah's Messiah chorus rehearsals begin the first Sunday of October at 7 p.m. in the choir room of the Music Building. The performances are scheduled for Dec. 6-7, said conductor Russell Wilson.

He added, "I have no Messiah scores to lend, not even one, so new singers will need to get to the CEU bookstore (in about two weeks) or to the local music store to get one. Ordering online is also easy. Best-in-Music at the Provo mall usually carries a dozen copies. Day-Murray Music and Pepper at Summerhays will also ship."

Wilson would like to see the choir grow this year. "Please be aggressive and invite new singers to join us," he said. "If we just sit back, we will not add singers, and need to. We obviously need men more than women, so try to locate a couple of tenors or basses and ask them to participate."

Because Wilson wants to keep the production free to the public, he is asking for a small donation to support the December performance.

"We need to purchase some canvas banners to hang on the new Price billboard frames you have seen around town, and they are about $300 apiece. My budget at the college has carried the Messiah 20 years, but that is not a possibility this year, with our staggering $1.5 million dollar cuts. Advertising, programs and other costs usually run about $600-900. We will be looking for more sponsors this year, as well."
