Today (October 29th) the College of Eastern Utah Student Association will be hosting Spooktacular, an event geared for children and the community, from 6-10 p.m. in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.
“This is something I started when I was the non-traditional student representative at the CEU –San Juan Campus 10 years ago and they are still doing it there. I felt that now that I was a part of the Price campus I really wanted to start something similar,” states Rochelle Badback in an e-mail. This is the third year Spooktacular will be sponsored on this campus. Spooktacular is a great way for all CEUSA clubs to make money.
Badback started Spooktacular on the CEU campus three years ago because she “just felt that CEU Price Campus needed to start a school-sponsored community event.” This event she believes will provide a safe environment for the children of the community.
This year 25 clubs will be involved in Spooktacular. Badback also states that the event becomes bigger and bigger every year. She “may have to look at possibly holding it in the BDAC next year!”
Some of the activities include a “fish pond, cake walk, bobbing for apples, balloon darts, musical chairs, cake walk, lots of fun activities are planned. Also a sloppy joe dinner, so families can come have dinner and the children can play games. A costume contest will be held every hour beginning at 7 p.m. with prizes awarded to the winners,” according to Badback. Last year over 200 people participated.
Badback hopes that she can continue this event after the affiliation with Utah State University.
Sloppy joes will be served for $3.50 a plate and the community is invited to participate.
