There are many people in this world that work hard to be the best of the best, who are at the top of the talented list, who have their names carved into plaques and who have ceremonies held just to honor them.
Then you have the people who are comfortable being themselves, who are all right with being ordinary and who are content living simple lives.

There are many people in this world that work hard to be the best of the best, who are at the top of the talented list, who have their names carved into plaques and who have ceremonies held just to honor them.
Then you have the people who are comfortable being themselves, who are all right with being ordinary and who are content living simple lives.
You have those who just slum about their lives coasting through and then those who make plenty of dreams but do nothing to make them come true. Then you find the people who break any mold I could write here; there are those who make their dreams come true, the rags to riches person who climbs the ladder of life to reach unbelievable heights.
Sometimes I think about the world in terms of food; thanks to being raised by a chef, love you mom.
Those who chose to be the best of the best are the meat in a pot of stew. They are the protein and give the soup its main base or taste. The meat is hearty and strong.
The ordinary people are the potatoes. They make up the majority of the soup and aren’t hard to come by. Other aspects of the soup like the cream broth are the people who just float through life never doing what except what others can’t or won’t.
The people who dream but never do anything to make their dreams come true are the cornstarch. It helps give the soup or stew its consistency. These cornstarch people are dreamers; it is the idea or belief that we can make our lives better that drives us to do better, that drives us to want more than what we have.
Ah the veggies. The healthy green things that float about in a pot of soup. I believe these people to be those who improve the very world around them. Who build a better world and keep that world moving in the healthy direction.
The people who break the mold and turn their lives from rags to riches are the salt and pepper, the spices giving the soup everything it needs to taste good. It spices up life, every spice a different and adventurous flavor just like the people the spices represent in this analogy.
Parsley is normally ignored. It’s just tossed on top of a grilled cheese and fries plate as garnish and sent out. Not many people realize it has a vibrant taste and brings out the best in other foods. Parsley has more potential than a garnish. It is an aid against cancer because it inhibits the effect of carcinogens; it can even help with cardiovascular and chronic inflammatory diseases.
This is who I want to be or who I hope I am. I want to be the vibrant parsley that people find in life. While some people might see me on a plate of grilled cheese and toss me away, it is the people who know how to appreciate parsley that matter.
I don’t have ambitions to be president or to cure cancer; I don’t want to revolutionize the fashion industry or make a break through in energy conservation. I want people to recognize me for the parsley qualities I have. I strive to be the jack-of-all-trades that can be chopped, cooked, or eaten raw. I want to improve not only my life but bring out the wonderful things and talents of other people too. Parsley stands up to heat well. It’s nutritious. Am I nutritious in the pot of soup? More people should choose to be parsley. Not just the best basketball player or the straight A chemistry student, but the well rounded person that can take anything that the world can dish out. Because sometime in that pot of soup you’re going to bump into a potato, a piece of meat, some crunchy veggies or maybe even a spoon.
Maybe next time you’ll think before tossing that parsley off your plate.
